Once we left a farm

"Once We Left A Farm" available through the shop
I lived on a farm once

far away from this one

It had dirt and sky and wood

just like this one

It had old friends of feather, bone and fur buried in her arms

so does this one

Things were big there and wide open like a stage without curtains

but here the stage is smaller, with a crack of light, stage center

Neither is perfect, neither is permanent

One smells of the coastal range, fog and wood

The other of the sea and beach paths of blueberries

There were bald eagles there who fished from our river

There are eagles here too who lunch from our marsh

But when you leave one farm for another

You wash off the dirt, pack the hoe, load up the truck and look back once

Only to find it's still there in your peripheral vision

While you plant the seeds for the sunflower patch

Strategically located near the small graves

Just like before

Thank you for reading! The farm and my art/writing keep me hopping, so might not respond immediately. Thank you for understanding. ~Katherine & Apifera ~
