2012 Art Workshop: Saturday, September 22, 2012, 9 am - 5pm
"Capturing the Essence...with donkeys at your side" is a day of listening, observing, feeling and healing at Apifera Farm, led by Katherine Dunn/artist.
For all levels of artists and writers and non-artists/writers.
The morning session is spent communing quietly with the donkeys, observing their moves, sounds, smells and essence. Pino, Paco, Lucia and old Matilda [adopted from Lavender Dreams Donkey Rescue] will share themselves freely with you. This quiet time is followed by morning 'gestural' drawings.
After a share session, a light homemade farm lunch is served under the big sky of Apifera, complete with Katherine's homemade pie.
The afternoon session is broken into two parts: the first will take place in a small paddock in the barnyard where the artist selects a couple of her old goats or Stevie the handicapped goat to partake as models. The first hour will involve word prompts from Katherine to stimulate story telling using drawing and short sentences. After a share session among participants, the guests can walk freely amongst the barnyard and free sketch. Picture taking is allowed in this last hour. The artist's studio will be open from 4-5 for those interested in her art, books or lavender items.
Cost: $175 per person, all materials included. Includes lunch.
Terms: No returns of money after August 1, 2012.
If you cancel before August 1, 2012, you will receive $125 back.
NOTE: A detailed email will be sent to each participant with directions, nearby lodging and pertinant information when they complete payment.

Accommodations:
Apifera Farm is located at 14710 NW Tupper RD, Yamhill, which is also part of Yamhill County. We are approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from airport. Yamhill County includes the towns of Yamhill, Newberg [bigger], Dundee, Carlton [small] and McMinnville bigger].
If you want to stay in the Portland area, keep in mind in September it will be getting dark when you leave the farm.
If you decide to find a place closer to the farm, your best bet, unless you want to explore rural B+B's, is to stay 6 miles away in the town of McMinnville.
To help orient you, Carlton is a very small, cute little town 3 miles from the farm. It does have some B+B's, gas station, a few teeny shops and lots of wine [everywhere has wine out here!]. There is a wonderful French Restaurant there called Cuvée [dinner only] run by one of Portland's top chef's. You can also get lunch fare at some small places there [but sort of slim pickings].
McMinnville is the closest bigger town, and is 6 miles from the farm. To orient you on a map, you would take Hwy 47 from Yamhill to McMinnville. You can get anything you need there- larger hotel chains like Best Western, or smaller B+B's. McMinnaman's has a historic hotel there on 3rd St. 3rd St. Third St is the main restaurant/bar/shop street in historic part of town.
If you think you want to stay on the coast, or visit there the next day, we are 70 miles from Lincoln City. [not the greatest beach town, but just to give you your bearings]. You would take Hwy 47 to 99 west into McMinnville and then onto Hwy 18 to the coast.
Want to stay in Portland? Lots of choices. We send our friends and family to the Heathman or the Hotel Lucia, but they are nicer hotels and there are plenty of Motel 6 types too.
