Welcome to Apifera Farm - where art, animals and lavender collide.

Follow along my journey as an artist, mother to sheep and friend to weeds as I stumble along as novice farmer and shepherd - all the while being true to my artistic muses. Here we believe in making gardens, not war and we listen to the cues of wise donkeys as they bake pies. One must watch for cats falling from our trees, and listen to the bees as they tell us when to cut our fields of lavender. The chocolate lab named after a pie and the pug with one eye create rhymes for me on a daily basis, and at the beginning of every day I awake and ask the sheep, "What will happen today?".

Old Friends...

I've added some old friends to the store site for sale, including this one. This is one of the pieces from my very first gallery show back in 2001 and it was an honorable mention in the Sioux City Museum show. Sometimes I hang onto to pieces without intending too, they become guides of some sort for me, but at a certain point, I let them go. I had a tree in Minneapolis that was such a companion for me at the time, such an essence of stability when I wasn't feeling so stable. I have new tree friends now, and this painting might help another as a companion.

I also have brought back most of my originals from out of state galleries and have added some to the store in the Canvas and Original section. I'll have more coming from another gallery in a month.

This is such a bright and beautiful painting Katherine! I always love seeing your new works. I know how you feel about holding onto certain pieces that are very special to you. The other day I took some of my very best pieces of little fairy furniture to a lovely children's book store here in our area. The owner loved them and I decided to leave them with her to sell, but then when I got home, I felt heartbroken and totally panicked, realizing that I had left my "little children" behind. That's what it felt like. I was able to get them back so my gratitude was very real that day. But, it is true, how we become so attached to our creations and feel that they are deeply part of us./ I visit your blog every day and always am so inspired by it!! And your wonderful farm adventures!!
Take care!
Debbie
