Daisy chain for the lady

Lucia's ears just called out for the proper accessory, and my nieces crafted a chain of petite English daisies. Stay tuned all week for more Post Pie Day Plethora of Pics.

Post pie picture plethora coming

I have so much pie, and so much love, filling me up that I have to come down to earth again. I have so many wonderful pictures to share, thanks to the fact this year a friend [thank you Kathy F.!] agreed to take pictures, and she did such a great job. It allowed me to focus on the donks and people...and need I say, the ongoing parade of the sweetest little beings who came to hug Pino. I have many sweet stories too, I just have to let it sink in a little. So many good things about the day...so stay tuned, later today through the week I'll post Pie Plethora Pics until you can't stand them anymore. There are many people to thank too... for starters my right hand helpers the Cathy-Livvie-Becca-Natalie team proved invaluable.

And I'd like to formally apologize to the universe for taunting the skies all Saturday and Sunday morning, as I worried about rain. The weather report was ALL wrong, and the skies became blue over Apifera precisely at 11ish for the Pie Party.

Until later...

People from afar came...

More Post Pie Day Picture Plethora...

We had people from as far away as Turkey. Pretty cool. One woman came and she had come from Seattle with friends. She pulled out her blackberry and showed me the large canvas she had bought of mine, from Sundace. That was cool. Thank you,Lindy!

What's so nice is we get all ages to Pie Day, and I have not met one yet who wasn't nice. And they leave even happier and nicer after pie and donks and farm. Seriously. I usually ask - "Do you feel even better after the pie?" and the response is always, "Of course!".

In all seriousness, when I looked through the pictures from the day, I also know that the energy of Apifera Farm comes not only from the land that needed tending and now is being tended so is exuding it's good energy outward to all - but it also comes from the energy, time and love Martyn and I have for each other, and the farm and it's animals. This place is hard work 24/7. It's a money pit too. It's sometimes hard to stand up and pat yourself on the back, but we've come a long way out here, still have a long way to go - but these Pie Days are thank you's to the life we live.

And of course, we had pie. Complete with donkey cookies on the top with cinnamon.

"Honey, watch the poop"

I loved this. This little guy's mom said to him, "Watch the poop" [meaning 'watch out for the poop], and he stopped, and watched the poop.

"How can I get that daisy chain?"

Dalton is a flower lover. He loves flowers. Every time you see Dalton, the first thing he does is pick you a flower, or if there is a flower nearby, he is more interested in that, even if a donkey is standing in front of him. I loved these pictures for that reason. He's looking at Lucia, but that first expression is sort of like, "Hmmm, I wonder how I can get my hand on that daisy chain."

Little Ronan was quite unsure about donkeys...but once he realized they live in a fennel forest, he had a ball....

I loved these touching photos of little Dalton walking back to the car with the help of his Papa Rich from Mossback Farm and Martyn.

Sweet fling thing

I just LOVE capital letters this apron, sent by an Apifera friend, and new mother I might add. It'sso vintage new, if you know what I mean. Love the fabric. Swingy, playful with a dash of style. And we can't wait to mee the apron makers new addition, with the most wonderful name, Collette.

Thank you Kailla!

Pre Pie Day Salute

A rooster apron arrives!

NOTE: I just found out Paul actually will make these for people too- but she needs seed bags. Read the comments section of this post if you are interested in others.

This might be our most unusual apron yet - a plastic apron with a rooster made from feed bags! I'm sure I'll get the details from it's maker, Paula over at Hawks Nest Farm. You can just get gooey icky things all over this apron and then hose yourself off- true farm style!
Here is a picture of the lovely Paula with her lovely chicken. Now you must go read her blog and visit with her chickens.

The other wonderful part of the package was the two jars of their home made honey!!
Lavender will be on the way, Miss Paula...

Not bad for dirt farmers

In which I proudly show more from our garden, including the fact we finally have some consist ant red in the mix, which hasn't been easy. One of my other favorites, wild clover mixed with the lavender. Martyn has adapted to the fact I like to work 'weeds' into the garden mix.

Five year old steals Pino's heart

Pino is 4 years old, so he looks up to five year olds. He understands them too knowing they hold a unique perspective on important things in life, like the sun, and aprons....and cookies.

A package full of mother and daughter goodness arrived today. A very large package of animal crackers, an apron my Miss Emma, and another one by her mother Angela. Now I need to take formal mannequin shots of all the aprons and will post them later, so for now, I just have to describe Angela's. It's so wonderful, made out of old dish towels, very worn but handmade. Love it. And then Miss Emma got the sewing buzz too and whipped up this little one-of-a-kind apron, complete with little fabric pieces sewn on in her very Emma abstract vision. I see donkeys.By the way, it's sized perfectly for a baby donkey, or a five year old. You can see Emma modeling it on her very own blog.

And of course, as an artist, it's rewarding and inspiring to see see the art of the uncluttered, non-ego'd, non-jaded mind of a five year old. Emma likes suns, and squares. She also wrote a very short story, which I think is succinct, but heart felt.

So, thank you, Emma and Angela - we are so happy you joined in, and I know these will be a hit.
